Don't be a bit concerned with having a bigger tractor.......always remember this, You can do small work with a Big tractor, but you can't do Big work with a Small tractor.
Your 620 and 290 will do fine....same as they did 50 years ago.
I reckon you found the right size plates for your planter....there's always a ton of them available on ebay.
Assuming a good growing season with regular rain and so forth, you should stagger your plantings by 10 days or so. My garden plot is 150 long.....so, I plant 4 rows at a time...which translates to a pass down and back and in ten days or so, I do it again. I'll generally have 16-20 rows by time I am done. Living in KY, I try to get the first seed in the ground by May 10. That translates into having made 3 plantings by the first of June. I'll plant a 90 day corn first.....I like Honey Select. If for some reason I get delayed, an excellent 60-70 day corn is Kandy King. I had a friend of mine plant this variety in July last year and he had a fine crop of sweet corn.
If your 290 has fertilize cans.....use 12-12-12, if not.....you can side dress it. At lay by...that last plowing before harvest.....I hit mine once again...this time with ammonium nitrate. Corn is a heavy feeder and that last shot of nitrogen will really shove it up. Some people think it a waste...but it makes a difference to me. Enjoy your corn patch and you might as well plant some green beans while you're at it.
