Saturday at birthday party for two of my grandchildren- Sam was 4, Elly was 1. Sam is heavy into construction projects (pieces of wood and lots of imagination). I gave him 3 coffee cans of different sizes of gravel and drain rock, and a John Deere kids wheelbarrow. When he opened the cans of rock, he got kind of a puzzled look, and moved on to other presents. I brought the wheelbarrow out from a back room after he had opened everything else, and sure enough, you could see a light come on in his head. He ran over to the drain rock can, loaded the rock into the wheelbarrow, and the rest of the presents were forgotten. When we left, he was riprapping along the door to his bedroom, for "flood control".
Makes it easy to figure out what to get grandson Jack when he turns 3 in June- He made it clear that he thought that wheelbarrow was pretty cool.
