Florida is a state that has seen the affect of the concealed carry laws- 20% drop in overall crime despite the druggies and decrease in carjackings of locals. Some Dems remember the 1968 guncontrol act and resulting loss of house seats in following election. The recent Heller case in supreme court is another cautionary factor for Dems in districts that went Dem by slight margins. Warren case is a counter to the Lieburals that say 'don't need guns because police will protect you'. As for the automatic weapons- the figures for criminal activity committed by the owners of taxed automatic weapons is a LOT lower than congress critters crime rates. A better government might be possible by requiring all politicians running for office getting a full auto weapon- after passing FBI background check required might at least figure they paid their taxes and probably don't have a drug habit. 250,000 class three weapons holders and how many politicians in federal and state government- compare the number of each class serving time in federal and state prisons.
