Previous posts seem to have some good ideas and experience at this. I have none. About 20-25 years ago I was going home from work one evening along US 31 North of Westfield, IN. Some guys (who had more confidence than equipment) had hooked a JD 4010 (I think) and a very long cable to the top of an old and pretty shabby looking silo. It looked like the show was about to begin, so I pulled off the highway to watch.
They tightened the cable and pulled, with absolutley no effect. They they backed up and got a running start of about 30 feet! The back of the tractor went about a foot in the air, and the driver was nearly thrown off when the cable yanked tight! End of show for that evening. Over the next few days, they managed to chip off the upper third or so of it. The remainder is still standing.
Those old things can be tough. Be careful!
