When it comes to stumps I have tried just about everything. There is a lot to be said for leaving the stump in the ground if you can. After you dig one up you still hive to do something with it. Here is one approach. Cut the stump off as close as you can to the ground. Use your chain saw to cut deep into the stump. Let the stump sit for a couple of months. Through the summer if you can. Then, flood the stump with diesel fuel and cover with plastic. Wait a couple of week and flood it again. When the stump is saturated build a good wood fire on top. Alternatively, light off some charcoal in your BBQ, cook a steak or two, and put the embers on the stump. The stump will smolder and stink away in a couple of days.
