For curiosity's sake. At least talk a walk through the used truck lot and look at an early to mid 2000's vehicle. It will give you a baseline of what a newer lower mileage vehicle would cost. V.s. parts, time,labour and $$$. With the results being a 1990 pickup. The computer will be required for dash instruments, AC, cruise etc to operate. Unless you are an electrical/electronic whiz. This truck will never run like it used to. If nothing else drop the carb idea and rebuild/replace the existing engine for the "same". Those GM crate engines are priced right, are high quality and have excellent warrenty. Everything bolts together without pieces left over.
