You need to change the fuel pump (or use a regulator).
Use an older HEI distributor with a vacuum and centrifugal advance and a NON-feedback carb, and that should be all you need, since it's a 5-speed mech tranny.
All you'd need for it to run would be to take the RED 12-Volt wire that went to the coil, put a different end on it, and connect it to the "BATT" terminal on the older HEI.
