To get a full quality charge the battery will require 9 plus volts. Most 6 volt chargers when loaded will not supply this. A 6 volt charger will partially charge the battery and you may get by. I posted the correct method to charge an 8 volts battery a while back and started a full argument. If this is a work tractor, switch it to 12 volts following the method outlined by BobM on the home page of this site.
