I can't get them to change out the oil in my Cummins for that! ;8^) The Dodge marketing wer a little slow to smarten up. They used to send me coupons for an oil change and a sebbenty-lebben point service check for $24.95. Took them a while, but they finally started printing on the coupon that this was for a 5 qt. oil change and didn't apply to diesels.
For the service you got, the price sounds about right, even when compared to the chains. Like you, I usually change my own, and the local garage is happy to burn the 20-25 gallons of waste oil I generate in a year. When I do go to a shop, it's usually because I've gotten behind (weather, time . . .) and just need it done. If I think of it, I'll take my own filter with me (most chain shops will cut you a small discount for that), but don't mind theirs being on for the short interval until the next change that I'll likely do myself. The one thing that I will do anytime some one else changes my oil is to raise the hood and lok araound, and look under the vehicle for leaks before ever leaving their yard.
