these small generators typically do not use a permanent magnet for its excitation and thusly after sitting idle for a period of time the residual magnetism will slowly dissipate. this occurred to mine and the factory rep. recommended this procedure. start the engine and advance the throttle to full, then reach down to the governor mechanism located on the side of the engine near the carburator and manually increase the engine rpm to wide open for a short period of time. i did mine in 15 sec. bursts to advoid possible engine damage. this increased engine rpm should return the residual magnetism to the generator field. if this works then some good advice, which i follow, is to start the generator occassonially and place load on it for a while.
