The pea between someone's ears obviously wasn't working. I never did much riding on open tractors, and when I did it certainly wasn't around a mower.
One of the biggest problems today is that people have no common sense as to what is safe and what isn't combined with an expectation that every machine should be bound up with safety devices to prevent their death. That way they don't have to pay attention to what they're doing or use any judgement... Too bad for the kid.
