George Washington was not only offered the chance to be crowned ''King'' of America, many in the Continental Congress did their best to convince him to accept, how many modern politicians would turn that down? I know you were refering to modern times and yes, its Ronald Reagan, he did ''stand'' for many things and he accomplished quite a few. I was a fairly young single man in 1981 paying roughly 40% payroll tax and RR gave me and my kind, the only real tax break I ever got. We are not Governed by the constitution anymore and we have allowed it to happen but I believe that Reagan believed in self governance and did his best to limit goverment while in office. Its been over 200 years since Thomas Jefferson wrote that a Goverment ''large enough to supply all of the citizens needs is large enough to take it all away'' The President and Congress were not meant to be elected to ''fix'' the economy or supply healthcare or give lazy people houses and foodstamps, they do that to buy votes. The cable news would not have much to report out of Washington DC most days if we lived under the US constitution as written and ratified.
