Help with hydraulics

Hopefully someone will be able to answer this question. I have a '49' Ford model 8n in fabulous condition. I recently purchased
it several months ago and haven't had much of a chance to use it. Well two days ago I was back blading my driveway and
needed some more weight on the backblade itself. The blad is not to heavy maybe 200-300 lbs at most. I placed a steel
railroad tie on it which may weigh 100lbs. When I first raised teh hydraulics they went up fine. After I dropped them and
wanted to raise it they wouldn't and a sqealing sound came from the rear of the tractor. I then immedatly stopped drove about
15' forward and raised them again and it did raise up no problem but it was sqeaking. I then dropped the railroad tie off and
just used the back blade whcih was not heavy enough to do what I wanted. What weight can the hydraulics lift. I thought I read
an article where someone lifted up a 700 or 800 engine. Do I need to replace something? This also happened when I attempted
to lift up the plow on my pick up to move it. It seemed to have little pick up power but no sqeal. Thanks in advance.
