Gates are usually sold as either a "field" gate or a "crowding" gate. Where a crowding gate weighs something like double what the field gate does. The crowding gate is probably what you are looking for.

But it's not rocket science, any manufacturer can make a good heavy gate.
As for making your own, we have one made out of well pipe. Sure, it will last forever, but it weighs so much that you can forget about ever hanging it proper even with braced RR ties. You wouldn't want to to use something like that where you have to open it through ice and snow.
