Good plow-day in a bad Economy

Posted by Matt in WA on February 22, 2009 at 12:53:35 from (65.54.154.41):

Had a good day yesterday, for once. Despite being overcast, 32'-39', and the gloomy economic news. Have been looking for a decent 2 bottom plow for the place for the past year. Saw one at the neighbor's estate sale last summer, but him-hawed around, and didn't buy it.

Dropped by a week ago, on the way from town after grocery shopping, and asked the nice lady if she still had it for sale. She said she did and called back with the price, the next day, and I offered her $25.00 more for her trouble.

Picked it up yesterday AM, and had a "ball." It is a simple 2 bottom plow, with 3-points, even had a nice bushing on the top bolt, where the top-link attaches. Stamp on it says, "Ford Model 101", as I know you guys always like the details.

Anyway, hitched it up to the '69 JD 4020, and couldn't wait but give it a couple of 50 yard test runs out in the pasture, when I got home. Worked great after I got it lined up. Always have thought it neat how those moldboards lay that dark soil over....

Anyway, even though I broke one hitch-pin,(was a used one, I had), had a some fun. Plowed about "4", 50 yard rows by the road, and sure enough those rusted shares started to shine up real well! Even took my little disk out and smoothed it out after that, so I could seed in some new grass later this spring. All in all, had a pretty good day for a cloudy, cold, pre-spring day. I told the nice lady "thanks a-lot" when I handed her the check. Sorry this got so long. Thought I'd describe some fun with the tractor, on this seemingly long winter. Take care everyone

Matt

Today's Featured Article - The Rescue of a Fordson F - by Anthony West. Introduction I live in the UK and have for many years restored Fordson tractors (in the main model N's). I have also restored and shown model F's, E 27N's, Field Marshall Series 2, David Brown Cropmasters and the old rey Fergeson T 20. At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p ... [Read Article]
