I think it really depends on the land and what you are trying to do. We have tons of small fields with hills,ditchs,banks, etc. I can back up a bank with a 3 point mower and then lower the mower to cut the brush. I can lift the mower all the way up to go through a ditch with out scalping it. If I had big open flat fields I would go pull type, but for the stuff I do 3 point is the only way to go.
