I recently took on a Ford Industrial 4400 tractor to overhaul for a customer. Its a 3-cyl diesel. The serial number that you need for the whole tractor is stamped on the right side of the transmission bell housing on top of the machined off mounting pad. This is just behind the engine to transmission mounting joint. The tractor that Im working on has a decal under the hood that also gives the machine serial number and the serial numbers for all the major components (ex. engine, transmission, exc.). This is the first tractor of this type that I have worked on but it appears to be very simple so far. The tractor Im working on was made in August of 1974 and is painted bright yellow. I bought a I&T manual last week at my local Ford New Holland dealer for the 2000-4000 series farm tractors. There isnt a I&T manual available for the 4000 series Industrial tractors but every thing in the book that I bought appears to be the same as the industrial tractor except for the front axle. No big deal. I could have ordered a actual Ford service manual to the tune of $65 and a 2-3 week wait but I couldnt justify that on a tractor that I didnt own. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress. Im looking forward to getting this 4400 going and hearing it run. Its engine is stuck.

Today's Featured Article - Tractor Hydraulics - The Basics - by Curtis Von Fange. Hydraulics was one of the greatest inventions for helping man compound the work he can do. It’s amazing how a little floor jack can lift tons and tons of weight with just the flick of a handle. What’s even more amazing is that all the principals of hydraulic theory can be wrapped up in such a small package. This same package applies to any hydraulic system from the largest bulldozer to the oldest and smallest tractor. This short series will take a look at the basic layout of a simple hydraul ...
