Depending on the soil condition, I would leave it till last. Leave an area where it can drain to(it dosen't have to be big), just enough to hold the water while you work around it.Do it all in one day, or it may flood what you have already done. When you take it out , take as much of the good dirt out the top as you can, then, work the remaining into the bottom of the pond. Don't take too much at once, and spread it out fairly thin to minimize the chance of getting stuck. If I can be of any more help,E-mail me; [email protected] Josh
