There is good info on Woodheat.org. I use a Clayton forced air furnace which is in my basement. I use it in tandem with a propane backup. I can load all of the wood I need for the winter into my basement during the summer. Several of my brothers in law use outside boilers, they are safe but expensive and you have to go outside to load them. I think that you save about 130 gallons of propane for every cord of wood burned. good luck. My house was 81 degrees this morning.
