I agree with those guys who recommended a "middle" size tractor. When I was looking for a tractor I wanted a smaller one like zillions of other people out there. By the laws of supply and demand, the smaller utilities go for more than the bigger ones. I only have 6 acres and wanted a smaller light weight tractor because I needed one for finish mowing as well as other things. Since you have more land and are primarily going to be bush hogging, you can go for a bigger tractor than I wanted. Here's a list of what I was looking at and what you probably should not waste your time looking at because they are either too small for you (TS), have no features (NF), or are over priced($$): Ford 8N (TS,NF), Jubilee/NAA (TS,NF), 600 series(TS). JD 420/430 (TS,$$), JD anything ($$). Allis Chalmers B/C/CA (TS,NF), WD/WD45 (NF), D10/D12 (TS,$$). Ferguson TO-20 (TS, NF), TO-30 (TS, NF), TO-35 (TS, $$). MF35 (TS, $$). IHC A/B/C/100/200 (TS, NF). Oliver Super 55/550 (TS?). Here's a list of some tractors you might be able to get for $3000 that would probably be just right for you: Ford 800 Series, 2000, 4000. AC D14/15/17. IHC 230. Oliver 550? This is not a complete list, but these are the ones I looked at. Since your needs are different than mine, I think you'll have better luck. The first tractor I looked at and test drove was an Allis Chalmers D14 for $3000 and I really liked it. The only reason I didn't buy it was because it was too big for my needs. I won't tell you what I ended up buying because I'll probably get kicked off this board! And remember, all these answers are just people's opinions. I hope you're not in a big hurry so you have time to go out and look at and test drive lots of tractors before you buy one.

A Brief History of Tractors in Australia - by Bob Kavanagh. After Captain Cook's exploration of the east coast in 1770 the British Government decided to establish a penal colony in Australia. The first fleet arrived in 1788 and consisted mainly of convicts who were poorly equipped and new little of farming techniques. The colony remained far from self-supporting and it was not until the early 1800's that things started to improve. Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T
