On box lots of junk I will often see one thing I want. If the bid goes over what I'm willing to pay I'll just drop out. Afterwards I'll go over to the winning bidder and ask if he's interested in selling that one item. More than once I've found that he wanted the Allis water pump and is glad to sell the Ford carb. The inverse of that is true too. Ask the other bidder/s what he wanted and offer to sell him the Allis pump. My best auction technique though is to stay away from them completely. Save more money that way.
