This may be of value to you, don't know if it still works... I have a 93 E350 van that originally had Y plates, but the renewal cost of Y plates never gets below about $100. I had it reclassified as a passenger car plate (then GVW below 9,000). The fees came down to the $40 area. This is the same deal that every F250 fits into, so they almost always have passenger car plates. But if your truck is a dually, I don't think this works.

Yeah, that would be ideal. I currently have an F-250 and didn't know what I was getting into by buying a truck with slightly bigger springs on it. However, I see that the statutes specifically say that a Pickup Truck is defined as one that was designed by the manufacturer to haul 3/4 ton or less. I'm guessing there is no such definition for vans.
