Foreign airlines (and foreign Cruise ships) cannot carry from one point in the U.S. to another point within the U.S., except when the trip originates from or eventually goes to a foreign stop. That is why most cruise ships that stop in ports in Alaska start in Vancouver, Canada. This means that even though Swissair flies from Chicago to New York before they go to Geneva or Zurich, you cannot buy a ticket to go only between Chicago and New York, unless you are eventually going to go to Switzerland at some later date. I presume that something similar exists for Freight.
