Vern Shield started and ran a successful dragline company in Waverly Iowa after WW2. Every unit I have seen was a cable operated dragline on war surplus duece and halves. There are a few still around this part of Iowa that I roam. As the business matured or fell off to competition, he (I think retired) took a great interest in third world farmers and with volunteer help, church and service club funds, built "simple to fix" tractors for overseas sale/donation. I don't think there was any effort to market them in the US. Shield Bantam company has been bought out once or twice or more...the plant has been enlarged there in Waverly and they make Koerhing cranes there now. The plant is located on east/west Iowa Hwy 3 on the east side of town. It is approx 3-5 miles through town from US218/27. A great place to see a big horse auction yearly. Leonard
