My dairy farmer-neighbor trucks cattle as a side-business. At least in his case, he had a lot of problems with 460s. He had three in a row in 1 ton Fords and none made it to 100K without a teardown. He finally switched over to diesel and has had no engine problems since. He's had the 7.3 IDI engine (made to mid 1994) the 7.3 Powerstrokes with no problems. So, my experience is just with one guy, but I know he takes good care of his equipment.
Another friend trucks cattle and has always used Dodge Cummins. Funny thing is, he had zero prolems with the older 5.9 12-valve engine. Then he got a newer truck with a high-output 5.9 with 24 valves, and it's had several head bolt and head gasket failures.
