If you really want to know how a Duramax pulls, a couple of years ago we pulled four MacDon 39' draper heads from about a third of the way up in Saskatchewan down to NW Iowa, about 1000 Miles. We used two goose neck double header trailers, one pulled by an International semi tractor with a strong 365 Cummins with a 9 speed and the other pulled by a '95 one ton dually crew cab Duramax. These trailers pull hard, it's not the weight as much as it's the wind resistance against the teeth on the reels.
The two were just about a dead match as far as how well they pulled the trailers and the mileage was about the same, probably in the 7-8MPG range. Both of them were pulling their guts out - floorboarded - sometimes 55-60 MPH was all they could do flat out bucking a 20 MPH wind, but most of the time we could do 65. I was the lucky one who drove the Duramax so I had a MUCH smoother ride, and I was following the semi all the way, so it was a pretty accurate test. I felt kind of uneasy about pulling the Duramax that hard for that long, but she stood up to it well. Jim
