We still plow, mainly for straw, in the area north of Edmonton Alberta we produce a lot of straw, chopping does not solve the problem of plugging in a cultivator. Disk works well but plowing is the best. After 5 to 8 years of continuous cropping using anhydrous and with the large machinery on the land, plowing softens the land. We can plow 160 acres in a 8 hr day and take time out for breakfast, lunch and supper. No wonder New Holland bought out IH and the French .. well they are still looking for the horse that pulled that plow.
