4010 is older, few less hp, and all are synchro transmission. 4020 had 94 pto hp, and could be had with the synchro transmission or the Power Shift. Both were 8 speed. PS puts a few less hp to the ground, but PS/synchro is a personal thing. I would never buy a synchro- I like the convenience of the PS. PS lasts longer but is more expensive to fix. I"ve had 5, current stable full has almost 40,000 hours, only one rebuild in the bunch, and that was in 1980, on a plantation tractor with unknown hours.
