If it has glow plugs and they work, the tractor would have fired right up without needing the extra shot. Just pull off the wire to a glow plug and put a meter on the plug and go to ground. Check for resistance Ohms, if it's burt out, it will show open. It can show a direct connection which means it is shorted. You want resistance in Ohms. Simple to check.
