Where were you stationed? I was based out of Camron bay for some of my tour, but we only got back there once every few days. If you was in Phan Rang, we overnighted there often, 360 Tran, line haul fuel Co., we run with the 44 duces often.
I went there (in country) Jan 1 1970 at 6 AM. to March 9th 71. Was in the Big Red 1 untill the colors came home. Then transfered in country to Cameron Bay.
Maybe we crossed paths. I tried to locate a class mate that was in Phan Rang, my gunner, and the lewie both remembered seeing the name somewhere. We made a intentional delay in the convoy so we could overnight it there. We took off with the gun jeep, and toured the base, and finaly gave up. As we pulled back in where the trucks were parked we noticed a sign....yea to many trees, we could not see the forest. Come to find out, (we slept under our trucks) but if I would have stuck my fist through the wall of the building I was parked by, I would have smacked his buddy, as he slept in that same building.
If you ever saw a jeep with a 50, that was the only one ever seen in country.
That same classmate winters there every year, says it is a great place, everyone is happy, but you never get within two miles of any military base nowdays.
