How is the speed regulated on your alternators, or is are the speed and frequency governed at all? It would probably be easier to do this with three phase than single phase, because once you get one wind turbine going, you can use it to motorize the others; when a turbine is up to speed, you would unfeather its prop to bring it on line. The nature of a synchronous generator is that it MUST be in phase with any other generators to which it's coupled. So if you can control the speed of one generator, you can control them all.
Over the distance you need to run your wires, typical DC voltages would require very heavy cables.
