Well then maybe the shaft is broken then. It has or should have a short shaft with a gear on the end that messes with the cam shaft and the top of it has a slot that the distributor to sit in. That shaft could be broken or the gear on the end may have a pin in it and the pin broke. Been a long time since I have been into one so just going by foggy memory
