if the car is totaled it will have the title salvaged but in order to get a salvage rebuild the state has to inspect it and there has to be nothing wrong even a simple dash light or bent panel so tying a light on won't cut it. the reason you see those bent cars driving around is because people only have liability and the car never gets salvaged.So the car is still considered drivable by the state but if a cop sees it as a hazard they car shut it down and flag it out of service
