Never tried it on an engine, but one time about 20 yrs. ago my mom's car suddenly wouldn't crank or start while we were at a scrapyard. Battery terminals were a little dirty looking. Old-timer came over with a Coke in his hand and poured a little on each terminal while we stared at him. "Try it now". It fired right up...
