Yes, Ted did say that, or something close. But the interviewer was British, not French. The interview didn't come to a halt after Nugent made this statement, even though he addressed the interviewer as "you Limey (expletive)".
You can read the complete interview at the link below. Topics that were discussed included Ted's admitted draft dodging and alleged coprophilia. Ted demonstrated responsible gun ownership by shooting his pistol out the window of a moving vehicle (which, even in Texas, is illegal).
It appears that the interviewer thoroughly enjoyed his meeting with the Motor City Madman.
It really doesn't take that much nerve to bash the French in front of a Brit. If you want to talk about a rocker who showed some courage, how about when Ozzie Osborne relieved himself on the Alamo? Let's see Uncle Ted repeat that stunt!
