I feel for the ash trees. But, the genie is out of the bottle, it is only a matter of time. Here locally we have gone through 2 waves of Dutch Elm disease - elm was the most prominent tree we had growing here, far more than ash or oak (what's the status of oak wilt these days?).
Laws like this just make criminals out of everyone. As mentioned you can't prove a negative.
Minnesota also has some wood laws. I think here you can't transport more than 80 miles? I donno. I understand the concept, but enforcemt escapes me.....
Lot of issues with fish, too. Some troublesome fish have come into the Great Lakes and up the Mississippi with ships, and now after the fact they try to control it. And zebra mussels.
And exotic wetland weed species. Big on getting your boat cleaned off of weeds.
I just think the genie is out of the bottle on all this.
How about the Asian beetle (looks like a pink lady bug) which was brought in to control the aphids that were brought in by accident. The aphids we need to spray for anyhow; now the Asian beetles are a problem & we have to spray the house as well to control those stinky things.
Passing laws won't curb the problems. Bugs fly, fish swim..... Making criminals of all of us does what?
