A subsoiler is for breaking out the hardpan, an area of compacted soil prone to happen when ground is worked to the same depth repeatedly or when the soil is worked too wet, ie. compaction. Will only disturb a narrow slot, leaves residue. A breaking plow turns the soil over. A plow can go as deep but is usually a small plow big tractor configuration and is more expecsive as far as fuel goes. Also hard on plow to pull that deep. My 2 bits. HB
