Michelle, it sounds like he could have twisted the pto shaft on his auger. That is easy to do. When that happens sometimes the pto shaft bearing knuckles get what they call "out of phase". That means that the knuckles don't line up anymore the way they should and by applying a little pressure on them, it makes them jump or rattle around. I've seen this happen a lot on pickup truck drive shafts. Same principal. Just my suggestion, hope it may help. Leon in Mn.
