I have a question. When did input costs matter when it comes to groceries? It's not like the farmer can say to the elevator "it cost me this much to grow the crop so I'll need this much from you". You can say it causes a shortage but if one crop is short then it only makes sense that the farmer planted something else to offset the shortage. If he plants more corn in place of wheat yes wheat will be short but corn will be in excess or visa versa. If the land sat idle then I could see it but that hasn't happened since the 1930's. Input cost don't cause groceries to go up nearly as much as market speculation. BTW the Chicago Board of Trade should be banned.
