Or, without any big govt interference or zoning at all - there wouldn't have been any issue at all.
The other side of the coin. :)
I know, with no zoning at all we run into the 'bad neighbor' issues and that is no good either.
Just for the argument - your point seems to be that the early zoning was good to protect you from the later zoning.... But, if there were less zoning at all, then there would not have been any past or present issues for your grandma at all. Your arguement does not support a lot of zoning & government being a good thing.....
This is not an issue with you - I like to debate these issues on their merrits, not on the personality. I know we are in for more & more & more govt regulation, and the govt bodies keep telling us it is for our own good, it will make life so much better for us.
All it does is drive up insurance costs, fees, taxes, and the cost of doing business, and drives jobs over to other countries. Why does business move to China & Mexico? 'Zoning laws' and their costs and hassles are a small part, as your grandma found out, just makes doing anything in this country cost more. It is easier to sell a few parts out of an old barn in a country with less zoning laws.
If your grandma lived in _my_ county/state, she will find out the very bad _negatives_ of that zoning ruling if she ever tries to add on or rebuild the house............. Oops, not a residential, can't do that.
You are proving that zoning laws are a major hassle, not that they are a good deal.
