I remember my Dad had a hog pan filled with hot coals from the cookstove.He put this under his 34 Ford on subzero mornings.He used to put a blanket over the hood and used a small kerosene heater he bought from the Western Auto under the hood.It looked like a lantern with a steel chimney.Warming the battery helps.An old mechanic told me about tow starting cars that had 140 gear oil in the rear ends.He said the tires just slid along the snow covered roads.I remember seeing my Dad, Mother and Aunt,pushing an old pontiac out of the driveway.Once on the road there was enough down grade to push start the car.My 96 pickup had trouble starting at 8 below a few days ago.New battery last year.
