Who lives in the city? The guy who started this posting wrote it in 2008, it isn't a time warp message from 1949. For where there is no electricity there are LP coolant heaters. Or just get a little generator and plug the coolant heater in. It's still cheaper & safer than lighting a fire or using ether. Any of you see a problem lighting a fire under a machine built in the last 30 years. Most have plastic, fiberglass components, paint you care about, electrical wiring or hydraulics? It's not a model D John Deere with a massive expanse of cast iron chassis and little else. Dorking around with farmer fixes which take longer, cost more, are less effective, take more work and risk damage. Instead of using a economical and readily available coolant heater? That's just plain short sighted foolishness. A 1500W or 2000W tank heater will heat an engine from stone cold to starting temps faster than any blaze set underneath. Or portable air heater blowing against the exterior of the tractor.
