I do nothing to my batteries. As long as they had a charge when I parked the equipment, they work fine in spring. I've got 10yr old tractor, 8yr old lawn mower, and 2yr old car batteries that work fine with this labor saving approach. We usually only see temperatures down to -10F or so, you might need a different approach if it gets colder than that.
