If you're starting from scratch, make sure the valve has a built-in relief valve. Or buy one seperately. Depending on the pump, it may bypass, but will more likely bend/slip/break/strip or (worst of all) explode something. You'll also need a resevoir (with breather) and filter. Make sure your suction line to the pump is of adequate size so it doesn't suck shut and starve the pump. Also, make sure there is enough oil covering the suction line inlet that a vortex does not form, causing air to be drawn into the pump (check at max cyl extension). Further research revealed that load checks are to prevent movement of the load while switching valve position. Yes, 4-way valves w/float have 4 different positions. They can be found in various combinations of spring-centering, non-centering, detent, and pressure-release detent (eg: when cyl reaches the end of its travel, the handle pops out of detent.
