I didn't miss your point but I think they got off to easy. They knowingly broke the law because they thought they wouldn't get caught. They didn't get away with it. The law's the law as they say. If ya can't do the time don't do the crime. Judgments don't have to be fair market value as we all know. Example- Maximum fine for speeding in a construction zone now here in IA is $1,000. So 13 G's for a couple of deer isn't out of the realm of possibility. You also have to consider any priors they might have had and the way they reacted to the law when they were caught.
