You can do almost anything with the right tools, and I have seen compression rings made from steel shell casings by hand. If you can't find the rings you need however there are companies that build rings for you that are obsolete. We've got a 1938 Cat engine here that has long been obsolete. When it needed rebuilt we ordered some rings from a company in B'ham,Ala. They were expensive, about $90 per cylinder just for the rings, but they were made right, and several years later it still runs like new. I can't remember the name maybe someone else knows a company, or their name.
