People are still stealing copper in Vermont at every opportunity. Somebody even cut the copper gas line off an LP bottle at a local seasonal camp, while it was still full of gas and attached to the bottle. The owners of the camp had left for a few hours and came home to the smell of gas. Seems to me, the risk V.S reward just isn't worth it for a few cents worth of copper. Unfortunatly, the police have been announcing there is an explosion of drug addicts in this area now, especially kids hooked on Oxycontin (sp?). Its a real shame people can't find better things to do than drugs.
