It appears your big problem is the lack of agreement on the "contract". Happens all the time with "handshake" deals that don't clearly define both sides. Was there ANY agreement when you first talked to him,like percentage split? Were there ANY conditions on the deal, like condition of the wood? market forces? If not, I'd offer him what you think is fair, be prepared to back up your offer with figures like how much longer it will take you to split than anticipated. Otherwise, tell him to get his wood out of your yard or you'll start charging him storage.
