are you sure its at the front of the motor??? sounds odd that it would have noise at the front and the clutch disengagement would improve it. If its at the front i would suspect bearings in the PS or water pump or if its a gas the govenor. Could be rod bearings too.. If its at the rear of the motor it could be an input shaft bearing and when you disengage the clutch its relieved a bit. There may also be a bearing in the flywheel for the clutch that may be bad. Maybe that is making noise and vibrating thru the crank so it sounds like its at the front. Need to poke around and pin point the location.
