Interesting thread. Now for a couple pot stirring examples: Toyota plant in California was a union GM plant that was a money loser, sold to Toyota who brought in Japanese management and also told the GM workers they were first inline to be rehired- but not the union, union not allowed unless new organization as law allowed. Union organization failed- Beck disclosure required on papers. As noted Toyota doesn't have a pension liability as a defined benefit plan, instead using a annaul defined contribuution individual plan-401k- as many US companies do. Worker productivity under Japanes management work rules noted to be twice what it was under old union rules in 2006 comparison by company as given to California revenue/labor dept. Health care- GM cars made in Canada by union workers are $1800.00 less labor burden than US- the Canadian government does the health care for a 17.5VAT on car instead of company insurance by union contract. Toyota using American Deming process for inventory and quality control- difficult to implement in union shop. have fun gand. RN
